Short lead forms convert best. Name, email, phone, done. I believe that. I also
believe a form that stops there throws away most of what you could learn about the
person on the other side.

You can collect a lot more without adding a single question, and one or two more
questions cost less conversion than people fear.

## What the basics already tell you

 * **Phone number.** The area code points to a region and a time zone, so you know
   when not to call.
 * **Work email.** The domain usually leads to the company and its website. A personal
address will not, and a country suffix can flag an international lead.

## One field that does a lot

Ask for a ZIP or postal code. With a lookup table it gives you country, state, city
and a rough location.

## One question worth asking

Pick the single qualifier that best predicts value, such as team size or number
of users, and offer ranges that line up with your pricing. It helps you prioritize,
score campaigns and tailor follow-up.

## What you can capture without asking

 * Campaign tags, landing page and referring page, so you know which content actually
   produces leads.
 * Browser, device and operating system. Not a verdict on anyone, just a hint about
   how they work.
 * IP-based location, with a grain of salt. It is often wrong.

## Put it to work

Sales gets context for the first call. Marketing can send time-zone-aware emails,
run segmented follow-up and shift budget toward the campaigns that bring higher-
value leads. The web team can change calls to action based on who is really showing
up.

## The 2027 mentality

The old limit was labor: nobody had time to enrich, clean and score every lead.
That limit is gone. A small AI-assisted pipeline can read every form submission,
fill in the context above, flag the three leads worth a call today, and draft a
first reply a person then edits. The rule I use: AI prepares, a human decides, and
every lead record keeps a note of where each fact came from.
